One of my favorite webcomics is XKCD, a delightful mix of computer, gaming and observational insanity that never fails to leave me in stitches. Yeah, so some of the jokes are obscure and a bit tech-slanted...even more reason to love it so!
Here's one from a couple weeks back that not only contains a map, but a thought-provoking laugh as well:

Check it out every few days at XKCD.

Continental Drift.
ReplyDeleteA true American, maps and globes are just not their thing!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite XKCD map cartoon (and, being a nerd and a cartophile (not to mention redundant!), I have one) is this one.
ReplyDeleteI hardly have a leg to stand on, to complain of glibness, but this particular xkcd annoys me. Whatshisname knows full well that Kennedy didn't intend to include, nor would anyone have understood him to include, Siberia as part of Asia. So, get rid of most of the top half of the blue blotch. Then, add this reasonable addendum: "the whole southern half of [the inhabited part of] the globe." Australia and New Zealand of course have very small populations. Add all of this common knowledge up, and Kennedy's description is blandly accurate.
