Movie Nation

Online Carto-Cine-phile, subtonix, has created a map of the United States with each state renamed for a film that mentions it in the title, or uses that state for its locale.

Some of these make sense. Robocop takes place in a future Detroit. Raising Arizona... But Gummo for Ohio? Never heard of it.

Also possible errors... Fargo is in North Dakota. However, I haven't seen that film. Does some of the action take place across the border in Minnesota?

Can you suggest a better film for your state?

  2. Not only does 98% of the action of "Fargo" take place in Minnesota, the Coen brothers are Minnesota natives.

I can't believe they gave Rhode Island "There's something about Mary," it really should be "Me, Myself, and Irene"

  3. I can't really argue too much about Remember the Titans, but some others for Virginia are:
Gods and Generals (Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville)

    Shenandoah (Shenandoah)

    Die Hard 2 (IAD)

Minnesota: Field of Dreams, Drop Dead Gorgeous

    North Dakota:

  4. WA State could've been Sleepless in Seattle, Singles, even It Happened at the World's Fair. To make it less Seattle-centric, even Twin Peaks would've been better than First Blood.

  5. As we live in North Bend WA, the town where they filmed Twin Peaks, I couldn't agree more :-) First Blood was filmed in Hope, British Columbia, a very nice little town but nothing like Washington...

  6. How about Major League for Ohio? Or A Christmas Story?

  7. There is a lot more that could have actually had the name of the state as the chosen film, and then, if that doesn't fill all the states, pick the name of a film with a *city* of the state, then a film that's well-known for being filmed or being taken place in there

(I mean, "Tora! Tora! Tora!" instead of "Blue Hawaii"???? Come *on* people!)

  8. Gummo is an excellent choice for Ohio. If you cab track down a copy, by ball means dedicate an entire night to it. It's haunting.

But Deliverance for Georgia? I went to school right across from where most of the filming occurred, and while an almost accurate portrayal of the North Georgia mountains, that is such a small part of the state.

  9. Oregon would be much better served by "Drugstore Cowboy" than Goonies.

  10. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any part of Waynes World taking place in Maryland.

  11. According to this map, it is Delaware... but I don't know where Wayne's World was supposed to take place.
