Sitcom Maps
What was the fictional locale of your favorite TV sitcom? New York City? Milwaukee? Reno? Cocoa Beach?
Dan Meth, as a part of his series of Popular Culture Charts will help you find them on his U.S.A. Sitcom Map:
There are, of course, a disproportionate number of sitcoms that take place in New York City (although they were probably filmed in Hollywood, California):
I'm guessing that perhaps chart #5 will be a map of Southern California?

We live in North Bend, WA, the town where they filmed Twin Peaks! Also about 30 minutes away is Roslyn, WA, where they filmed Northern Exposure (it doubled as Cicely, AK.)
The closest fictional locale for me would be WKRP in Cincinnati...
Although West Wing might as well be a Dayton show: Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe and Allison Janney all have Dayton connections.
Not quite - Third Rock From The Sun takes place in a fictional Ohio college town that is, for all intents, Yellow Springs. John Lithgow attended Antioch, and he based the entire show on his memories of that place. Go figure!
How bout that? I didn't watch it often, and I think its heyday was before I lived in the area... so I didn't recognize Yellow Springs... I'll watch for that if I ever catch a rerun...
Allison Janney actually references that her character is originally from Dayton.
A surprising number of NYC shows were made in NY - Sex in the City, Cosby, Seinfeld, 30 Rock, for sure, and probably lots of the others.
Scrubs, I believe, is actually set in an unnamed place that's a stand-in for Sacramento.
